Ochlocknee River Pollution

The Ochlocknee River has been designated as an impaired river in many places. The top two contaminants are fecal cloroform from farm animals and agricultural pesticides from storm water run off. The State of Georgia is under a court order to develop a better understanding of the pollution issues. Thomas College is working on a plan, under a grant, to assist the State. The initial report is due on 12/16/02.

Meanwhile, there are plans to start a local "Friends of the River" chapter to help monitor and work with the appropriate agencies to assist in river clean up.
